A couple of my sons always request this one for their birthdays! Whether you’re it for a celebration or just for fun, this cake is bound to bring joy to your taste buds! This cake gets rave reviews from whoever it is served to. Be warned though, it is very addictive! It is hard to stop with one slice! Ingredients

Scale

Cake

1 yellow cake mix (the kind with pudding)
1 (3.5 oz) box of instant vanilla pudding
1 TB poppyseeds
1/2 cup pinapple or orange juice
1/2 cup oil
1 cup sour cream (I use lite)
4 eggs

Glaze

1 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup butter (1 cube)
1–2 TB corn syrup (I usually leave this out)

Instructions

Cake:

  1. Mix yellow cake mix, vanilla pudding and poppyseeds.
  2. Add juice, oil, and sour cream and mix.
  3. Add 4 eggs one at a time, mix well.
  4. Grease and flour a bundt pan.
  5. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes.
  6. When the cake is about 10 minutes from being done start the glaze.

    Glaze

  7. Bring to a boil–then keep bubbly until ready to pour over cake. It is really like syrup that soaks in. Give it a few minutes to soak in and then turn it out onto a cake plate. Enjoy!

I LOVE my Shun Ken Onion knife set, my Bosch, and my Omega 8005 Juicer, but really, the one item I wish I had purchased first is the BaMix immersion blender. I use it 3-4 times a day sometimes. It is awesome! Can I pick the knives too? Seriously, a good knife can completely change your attitude about food preparation. Start with the Chef’s Knife.

OMG where do I begin when it comes to choosing my favourite kitchen tool??? There’s the kitchen aid, the blender, the juicer, the popcorn maker, the slow cooker, the pie maker, my knife, my double bladed chopper and there are still so many more!!! Can you tell I am addicted to cooking gadgets of any shape or size??? LOL!!

But having thought about it I would have to say my favourite tool that I use would have to be my Swiss Speed Peeler… love it and have been using it for years now (it’s a point that I cannot handle using a normal peeler!!) I even take it with me to other houses or the club canteen if I think there may be vegetable peeling involved!!

BTW love the blog – you all do a fantastic job!!!

I think it might have to be my cleaver…I’ve had it for fifty years. It chops vegetables and then acts like a scraper, picks the diced vegies up and plops them in the skillet or soup pot…almost like in one motion. I guess its partner might have to be the hand held stone for keeping sharp.

My Master Cook recipe software, where I store your recipes, would also have to be a favorite.

Oh, this is so hard. It's like choosing which of my children I love the most–okay, maybe not JUST like that, but close. I've grown up loving kitchen gadgets, probably because my mom is a fabulous cook but also because I have fond memories of my dad and I watching infomercials of kitchen gadgets. We didn't order too many of them, but we did try out a few. The rest we accumulated at places like Bed Bath & Beyond. We sound so weird, I know. I suffer from an addiction of gathering way too many recipes for me to ever try in my lifetime, so I love your blog and have been trying some of your recipes lately. Thanks so much for sharing! Okay, if I really had to choose just one favorite kitchen tool, I guess it would be my favorite knife–my Santoku. I have two just like it because I use it so often.

And I love my garlic press (after going FOR-EVER without one it’s also beautiful). And I really love my citrus squeeze. And my wooden spoon. Must have the basics! 🙂

I’ll have to try your version of poppyseed cake. I use the one from the Lion House cookbook and it is pretty similar. The only thing I do different is add almond extract to the cake and a little to my glaze. I also like to sprinkle the top with slivered almonds. It is addictive!

My favorite kitchen tool is definitely my Bosch.

Tribute to my sweet Mom

I developed my love of cooking at an early age “helping” my Mom bake cookies, make dinner, and knead bread. She had quite the well of patience! She is the one that taught me about measurements, leavening agents, egg-washes, the basic white sauce, and numerous other mysteries of the kitchen!  I cherish the memories I have of learning to cook at her side. Thank you Mom! You instilled in me a respect for work as well as a joy in creating delicious things. I love you! xoxo
