These Pizza Rolls are a super fun and tasty dinner! Who doesn’t love pizza? Now imagine little individual garlic rolls stuffed with melted cheese and your favorite toppings that you can dip into warm marinara sauce… delightful! My friend introduced me to the pizza roll concept and since then, I’ve conducted some delicious experiments! Here is my favorite: a supreme pizza roll with a garlic bread twist. Read on and you’ll get what I’m talking about!

Ingredients

Scale
  • pizza dough (click on title for recipe)
  • mozzarella cheese, shredded or cubed
  • pepperoni, cut into fourths
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, diced small
  • 1/2 small onion, diced small
  • 1/4 cup chopped olives

Instructions

  1. Roll pizza dough out into a large rectangle. Using a pizza cutter, cut into 12 pieces. (I actually prepared 1.5 pizza dough recipes in the picture which is why I have 16, not 12)
  2. Layer the toppings in the center of each square of dough; about 2-3 Tb total of toppings on each.
  3. Now stretch and fold the dough around the toppings, pinching to seal edges. This is the tricky part – the more toppings you use, the harder it gets to tuck them all within the dough! (fyi: pepperoni and cheese or ham and pineapple are much easier, as you can imagine.)
  4. Now place seam side down in a lightly greased casserole dish or glass baking dish.
  5. Brush with olive oil and sprinkle generously with garlic salt and Italian seasoning. (oregano, basil and thyme, etc)
  6. Bake in a 400 degree oven for 25-30 minutes or until rolls are light brown.
  7. Serve with your favorite marinara sauce for dipping.
  8. Dig in and have fun!

No you don't need to let the pizza rolls raise before you bake them! The pizza dough has already risen for 1.5 hours. Once you roll the dough and form the pizza rolls it's like making a pizza and throwing it in the oven- no additional rise time.

I, too, wondered if you let them rise before baking?

Made these for supper tonight and they were delicious! For the filling I mixed together the leftover toppings from the pizza I made with the leftover pizza sauce (about 1 tbsp) and a handfull of cheese. Then I just put a spoonfull on each square.

Hi Toni! I have let it rise longer before – in the frig though. I think it would be fine for 3-4 hours in the frig to rise. Hope that helps – let me know how it works out! Britt

Hi, has anyone let the dough rise for more than 1.5 hours? I need to make it before heading out to a function since I wont have enough time when I get home before dinner to let it rise.

    Thanks
    Toni

The cheese sprinkled on top sounds great (parmesan or mozzarella) – I do that with breadsticks so i'm going to have to try it with these!

Liberty Academy, I cut the squares about 3 inch square. Have fun! Britt

I made these for dinner last night, Brittany, and they were delicious. The kids gobbled them up too. I had extra shredded mozzarella so I sprinkled it all on top about 7-8 minutes prior to taking them out and it was a yummy addition. Thanks for the great recipe!

These are great! You can also use the store bought Pilsbury pizza dough (coming from a working mom). They are so quick and easy. I use Precious fresh mozzarella cheese. It comes in a round ball and I cut it in cubes! I also top mine with parmesan cheese before I bake. So great!

Tribute to my sweet Mom

I developed my love of cooking at an early age “helping” my Mom bake cookies, make dinner, and knead bread. She had quite the well of patience! She is the one that taught me about measurements, leavening agents, egg-washes, the basic white sauce, and numerous other mysteries of the kitchen!  I cherish the memories I have of learning to cook at her side. Thank you Mom! You instilled in me a respect for work as well as a joy in creating delicious things. I love you! xoxo
