Have you ever tried these perfect freezer biscuits? They are a serious favorite at my house. I love that they go straight from the freezer and into the oven! I thought I would repost them today because tomorrow I am sharing my sweet friend Mary Bess’ famous sausage gravy recipe. It is the THE BES

*Everyone has a dining room, and love to use it for gatherings and good home cooked food (I really wanted a dining room–and it was hard to find in the West–but not here-lucky me:)
*People go to church every Sunday and pray over every meal…even in a restaurant.
*You always finish with a “mam” or “sir” when you answer a question–happily my boys are starting to pick this up!
*No matter how old you are, parents are always referred to as”Mama” and “Daddy” and children are always “baby” to their parents or anyone for that matter.
*And Southerners LOVE a good biscuit…even all the fast food joints have them on the menu !
And, with that in mind, let me introduce you to a wonderful biscuit recipe from my friend Sheri–not a southerner, but a fabulous cook:)

This biscuit recipe is a favorite of mine because they are tender, moist and I LOVE that you can bake them straight from the freezer. So easy! We love them with butter and jam, but we recently we had biscuits and gravy made by our friend Mary Bess (a true southern girl) and it was WONDERFUL! I will have to get her recipe so I can share it with you!

Perfect Freezer Biscuits
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups flour
- 2 TBs. baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp soda
- 1/2 cup butter
- 16oz sour cream
- 3–5 tsp water
Instructions
- Mix dry ingredients in a bowl. Cut in butter until there are small well blended pieces. Add sour cream and water, mix well. Knead and roll out to 1 inch thick. Cut with biscuit cutter. Freeze individually on a cookie sheet. When frozen solid, place in a freezer bag to store. When ready to use, place frozen biscuits on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 425 for 15=17 minutes or until top is golden. makes 16-20.

Just made a practice batch of these for a freezer meal class I am teaching. Baked a few up last night and was very pleasantly surprised! Delicious. Looked and tasted like I had just made them. Oh so easy to keep these on hand. How long to you they keep frozen?

It’s ok to just bake these immediately right? I want to do them for Thanksgiving this week but I do not have the time to make them ahead of time! Thanks 🙂

These are great biscuits, but also make incredible scones!! I love a cranberry scone from a local bakery, but often don’t want to drive out to get it. I replaced the water with fresh squeezed orange juice, zested 2 oranges. Add at least a cup or more of dried cranberry, I like lots of cranberries!!
I brush the tops with milk or cream, and top with raw or turbinado sugar, regular works too!
They are so delicious!!

These. are. perfect.
And I was born and raised in Alabama…with my grandmother making biscuits every morning whenever we were visiting…and these are just as good, (i just can't bring myself to say they're better, though they kinda are).
Straight from the freezer to the oven…love it. Feeding my hungry husband has never been so easy!

My husband loves biscuits for breakfast but I admit I am not always in the mood to make them when he wants them. Then I came across your recipe and had to try them. This is a great recipe!!!! I was skeptical whether they would turn out because of cooking them for just 15 minutes while frozen. They are perfect. The other thing I like is they have way less butter than my grandmothers recipe, sorry grandma, and they remind me more of my moms Baking Powder Biscuits. Thanks Girls!!!

Great post! I am from and still live in Louisiana… talk about Southern culture! It's a different world down here with our etoufees, jambalayas, red beans and rice, and gumbos! You must come further south and soak in some cajun culture!!!
This looks like the Popeyes biscuit recipe, which is to die for so I'm sure these will be savory too!

Melanie, I served there from 95-97, a loooooong time ago. I never made it down to the Chattanooga area, but my husband served in Signal Mountain (yes, we served at the same time, but I promise, nothing happened!:-) I served in Knoxville, Crossville, Greeneville, and Jefferson City. I LOVE Tennessee and would move there in a heartbeat! Enjoy your time there!

While not all southerners fit the description listed, many of them are like that. I was born and raised in TX and Oklahoma, so I've witnessed much of the southern hospitality :). Congrats on making it one year in the south LOL!
Anyway, thank you for this recipe. I never knew I could freeze biscuits before making them! I will be trying this out soon. I'm sure my stepdaughters would love them.

I've never visited the south and hearing about their culture is very refreshing. You have convinced me to visit. 🙂

I could very easily devour like 5 of this at once. They look incredible, especially with all the jam slathered on them.

This screams 'DANGER DANGER YOU'RE GOING TO EAT FIVE OF THESE!' to me! Haha! I can't wait to try them! My husband and I are both college students and I've been thinking about ways to be better to make sure that we still eat good dinners when we're both so busy. This is such a PERFECT idea to go with dinner!

I can't wait to try these. I've got the gravy down, but have never perfected the southern biscuit. I served in the Tennessee Knoxville Mission (what part of Tennessee are you in?) and fell in LOVE with biscuits and gravy.
I loved your post. It made me miss Tennessee!

Sounds like a good make-ahead item to be able to pop in the oven. With only 2 of us at home now, I could just take out as many I need for that meal… Great idea!
