Honey Lime Shrimp Tacos on a blue plate

There’s just something about shrimp tacos that makes any day feel like a little celebration. Best of all, these Honey Lime Shrimp Tacos are sweet, tangy, smoky, and fresh—everything you want in a quick weeknight dinner! It is getting cold here this last week and of course some cozy soups have been on the menu, but we still crave tacos regularly! I think tacos might be my favorite food! Especially served with chips and salsa!! YUM!

I keep a bag of frozen wild caught shrimp in my freezer at all times for this recipe. We LOVE it and it comes together so fast!!

HOney Lime Shrimp in pan

The shrimp get tossed in smoky spices, seared in hot pan, then glazed with butter, honey and lime for a glossy, irresistible finish. Add a cool, creamy cilantro-lime slaw and buttery avocado slices, and you’ve got tacos that are bright, balanced, and bursting with flavor.

They come together in under 30 minutes and taste like something straight from a beachside grill—no takeout required!

Tips for the Best Honey Lime Shrimp Tacos

  • Use wild-caught shrimp for the cleanest shrimp and best flavor.
  • Don’t overcook — shrimp only need about a minute or two per side.
  • Make it creamy: If you don’t make the slaw, add a quick drizzle of Greek yogurt or chipotle-lime crema before serving.
  • Add crunch: Top with pickled red onions (these are in my fridge at all times).

Description

Quick and flavorful Honey Lime Shrimp Tacos made with smoky shrimp, creamy cilantro-lime slaw, and avocado. Fresh, easy, and ready in 30 minutes or less!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb wild-caught shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 teaspoon EACH salt and black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon EACH smoked paprika, garlic powder and chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon lime zest (from 1 lime)
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice (from that same lime)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1/2 bunch cilantro, finely chopped
  • 3 cups finely shredded green cabbage
  • 1/2 bunch cilantro, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice (from 1 whole lime)
  • avocado, sliced
  • 8 6-inch tortillas (corn or flour, your preference)

Instructions

Shrimp

  1. Pat the shrimp dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.
  2. Sprinkle on the salt, pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder and chili powder. Toss shrimp to get them evenly coated with seasonings.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium high heat and add the olive oil. When the oil is hot, add the shrimp, taking care not to overcrowd the pan (you might need to work in 2 batches depending on the size of your pan).
  4. Cook shrimp for 90 seconds, flip and cook another 90 seconds, until the shrimp are opaque and have some golden brown caramelization on both sides.
  5. Reduce the heat to low, add the butter, lime zest and juice and honey, tossing to coat the shrimp and create a cohesive sauce. Bring the mixture to a simmer and allow to simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce is thickened and coating the shrimp.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in the cilantro to finish the sauce.

Slaw

  1. Place cabbage, cilantro, Greek yogurt, lime juice and a pinch of salt in a large bowl.
  2. Toss until the cabbage is evenly coated with herbs and yogurt. This slaw is not overly dressed, there should be just enough yogurt and lime juice to create a light, creamy coating for the slaw.

Assembly

  1. Warm tortillas in the microwave, oven or over the gas flame of a gas stovetop (my preferred method).
  2. In a tortilla add a scoop of creamy slaw and 4-6 shrimp.
  3. Spoon on some of  the honey lime sauce.
  4. Finish with avocado slices and ano

Tribute to my sweet Mom

I developed my love of cooking at an early age “helping” my Mom bake cookies, make dinner, and knead bread. She had quite the well of patience! She is the one that taught me about measurements, leavening agents, egg-washes, the basic white sauce, and numerous other mysteries of the kitchen!  I cherish the memories I have of learning to cook at her side. Thank you Mom! You instilled in me a respect for work as well as a joy in creating delicious things. I love you! xoxo
