Description
These Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars for a Crowd are my go-to when I need a reliable, homemade dessert that everyone loves.
Ingredients
-
1 1/2 cups softened butter (3 sticks – I use salted)
-
1 cup granulated sugar
-
1 cup brown sugar
-
3 large eggs
-
1/2 tablespoon vanilla
-
3 1/3 cups flour
-
1/2 tablespoon baking soda
-
1 teaspoon salt
-
2-3 cups chocolate chips
-
1 1/2 cups chopped nuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line a half sheet pan (approximately 18×13 inches) with parchment paper or spray with nonstick spray. It is easier to spread the dough using the spray instead of parchment.
- Cream the butter and sugars together until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs and vanilla and mix until smooth and fully combined.
- Mix in the dry ingredients: flour, baking soda, and salt. Stir just until combined—don’t overmix.
- Fold in the chocolate chips (and nuts, if using).
- Spread the dough evenly into the prepared half sheet pan. Use a spatula to smooth the top.
- Bake for 17-20 minutes, or until the top is lightly golden and the center is just set. Do not overbake—the center should still be soft.
- I found them easier to cut while slightly warm.
Notes
These bars are easy to customize:
- Swap some chocolate chips for white chocolate or butterscotch chips
- Add M&M’s for a fun, colorful version
- Try toffee bits or chopped pretzels for crunch
- Drizzle with melted chocolate after baking for an extra-decadent finish
