Description

These Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars for a Crowd are my go-to when I need a reliable, homemade dessert that everyone loves.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups softened butter (3 sticks – I use salted)

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 cup brown sugar

  • 3 large eggs

  • 1/2 tablespoon vanilla

  • 3 1/3 cups flour

  • 1/2 tablespoon baking soda

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 2-3 cups chocolate chips

  • 1 1/2 cups chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line a half sheet pan (approximately 18×13 inches) with parchment paper or spray with nonstick spray. It is easier to spread the dough using the spray instead of parchment.
  2. Cream the butter and sugars together until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs and vanilla and mix until smooth and fully combined.
  4. Mix in the dry ingredients: flour, baking soda, and salt. Stir just until combined—don’t overmix.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips (and nuts, if using).
  6. Spread the dough evenly into the prepared half sheet pan. Use a spatula to smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 17-20 minutes, or until the top is lightly golden and the center is just set. Do not overbake—the center should still be soft.
  8. I found them easier to cut while slightly warm.
  9.

Notes

These bars are easy to customize:

  • Swap some chocolate chips for white chocolate or butterscotch chips
  • Add M&M’s for a fun, colorful version
  • Try toffee bits or chopped pretzels for crunch
  • Drizzle with melted chocolate after baking for an extra-decadent finish
