Applebee's Blondies with Maple Butter Sauce

I discovered the lusciousness of Applebee’s Blondies with Maple Butter Sauce when I was in college. It’s like a little piece of heaven. So rich and smooth…. mmm! When I came across this copycat recipe, I couldn’t wait to try it out. And guess what! It’s wonderful! My husband (who is also a big fan of this dessert at Applebee’s) absolutely raved about this version I made at home. Success! 🙂
Try it out and let me know what you think!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 c. flour
  • ½ tsp. baking powder
  • 1/8 tsp. soda
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • ½ c. chopped walnuts
  • 1/3 c. butter
  • 1 c. packed brown sugar
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 T. vanilla extract
  • ½ c. white chocolate chips

Maole Butter Sauce

  • 3/8 c. maple syrup
  • ¼ c. butter
  • 3/8 c. brown sugar
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ½ tsp maple extract/flavoring

Vanilla ice cream

Instructions

  1. Sift flour, baking powder, salt, and soda. Add walnuts and white chocolate chips; stir well. Melt butter and stir in brown sugar; cool slightly. Add egg and vanilla and blend well. Add flour mixture, a small amount each time, mixing well. Spread in a lightly greased 8×8 pan. Bake at 350° for 20 minutes, or until tester inserted in center comes out clean or with fudgy looking crumbs.
  2. For the maple butter sauce, combine maple syrup and butter and cook over low heat until butter is melted. Stir in brown sugar until dissolved. Remove from heat and beat in cream cheese and maple extract until smooth. Heat again over low heat (or in microwave at short intervals) to reach desired sauce consistency.
  3. Serve sauce over warm blondies topped with vanilla ice cream.

love it, love it, love it. BTW..your printable recipe doesn't mention to add the chips, which would be disastrous to forget in my book. Thanks again!

I made these for my parents last weekend and they loved them. Next time I will try them with regular maple syrup instead of pure, like you said, it would be way cheaper!

I decided to use regular syrup, like Mrs. Butterworths. If you want you could try pure maple syrup, but I think regular syrup might be better.

Do you use pure maple syrup or syrup like Mrs. Butterworths?

Amy and I went shopping for an hour tonight while Matt and Griff watched the kids. Griff was craving a treat, so I suggested they make these while Amy and I shopped. Imagine our delight when they actually did! And they were fabulous! We had to bake them a little longer than it says, but seriously… they were really good.

Melanie, try it out without the walnuts and let me know how it is! (of course substituting pecans or something would be great, but I think your husband might be 'allergic' to those too.) 🙂

MMMM this sounds so good! So you think I could leave out or swap the walnuts–since I have a husband with a terrible "allergy"?

Tribute to my sweet Mom

I developed my love of cooking at an early age “helping” my Mom bake cookies, make dinner, and knead bread. She had quite the well of patience! She is the one that taught me about measurements, leavening agents, egg-washes, the basic white sauce, and numerous other mysteries of the kitchen!  I cherish the memories I have of learning to cook at her side. Thank you Mom! You instilled in me a respect for work as well as a joy in creating delicious things. I love you! xoxo
