My boys LOVE these easy breadsticks and they really are fantastic. I have been using this recipe for years and it comes to gather quick!  I am not sure who I got it from, but I have shared it with lots of people. They are really quick and easy breadsticks to make. You only have to start them about 1 hour before dinner and you will end up with delicious, warm breadsticks to go with your meal!
Prior to baking I  like to sprinkle them with this fun Garlic Cheese topping

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cup warm water
  • 1 Tablespoon yeast
  • 2 Tablespoons sugar
  • 3 ½ cup flour
  • ½ tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Butter for pan.
  2. Dissolve yeast in warm water.
  3. Add sugar and let it sit and bubble for a few minutes.
  4. Add the salt and flour. Knead for 3 minutes.
  5. Let the dough rest for 10 minutes. (I do all of this in my Bosch–any mixer would work great)
  6. Melt 3-4 Tbsp of butter and pour most of it onto a cookie sheet.
  7. Roll dough to cover cookie sheet.
  8. Cut to desired width, then twist or lay flat on cookie sheet.
  9. Brush remainder of butter on breadsticks and sprinkle with garlic salt, parmesan cheese, and parsley (or whatever seasonings you like).
  10. Raise for 10-20 minutes. Preheat your oven to 375 and bake for 20 minutes, or until golden.
  11. You can roll them out to fit a cookie sheet and they will be puffy and soft. If you prefer a thinner, crunchy breadstick roll them out to fit a cookie sheet and a jelly roll pan. Either way they are great!

Do you have any idea what temperature the warm water is that you put with your yeast? Have you used other forms of yeast as well?

Best. Breadsticks. EVER. These are better than anything I’ve had at a restaurant or pizza joint.

I’m closing in on 50 years old but was never really the cook/baker of the family (3 sisters living together). Since being laid off in October ’13 I started doing more cooking and trying my hand at desserts. I was very nervous about trying something with yeast (all the rising, kneading, etc.) but one sister requested breadsticks so I thought I’d give it a try. These turned out marvelous! And so very tasty with garlic salt, parm and parsley. I’m deleting all the other breadstick recipes I saved. This is the only one I’ll ever need!

These were soo good! I have been looking for a simple fast bread stick recipe for awhile now. The texture was right on, and I didn’t have to knead the heck out of it, or wait an hour plus. I had all the ingredients on hand, regular flour, instead of bread flour in half the other recipes. No lie I pinned this to pinterest n will always use this one from now on. A big thank you, I’m so glad I found this one.

Amy-I have never tried it with wheat flour–but I bet you could at least do half & half. I have done that on other recipe and it works great!

I love these too! Just out of curiosity, have you every tried the recipe with whole wheat flour? Does it ruin it?

Tribute to my sweet Mom

I developed my love of cooking at an early age “helping” my Mom bake cookies, make dinner, and knead bread. She had quite the well of patience! She is the one that taught me about measurements, leavening agents, egg-washes, the basic white sauce, and numerous other mysteries of the kitchen!  I cherish the memories I have of learning to cook at her side. Thank you Mom! You instilled in me a respect for work as well as a joy in creating delicious things. I love you! xoxo
