Description

The sweetness of ripe bananas perfectly complements the tanginess of cream cheese, creating a bread that’s simply irresistible.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 mashed ripe bananas (spotted and brown bananas are the best)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3 Tablespoons sour cream
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Cream Cheese Center:

  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tablespoon flour

Cinnamon Sugar Topping (to sprinkle on the top, if desired)

  • 2 Tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Cream 1 cup sugar, with the butter and the egg in the bowl of a stand mixer.
  2. In a separate small bowl, stir the baking soda into the sour cream until dissolved.
  3. Then add the baking soda/ sour cream, the salt and the mashed bananas to the creamed mixture.
  4. Stir in 2 cups of flour and mix until just mixed (be careful not to overmix).
  5. Divide 1/2 the mixture into 2 greased and floured loaf pans.
  6. Combine the cream cheese, sugar, egg and 1 Tablespoon of flour and mix well.
  7. Spread equal amounts of the cream cheese mixture over the batter in each loaf pan.
  8. Now layer the remaining batter equally over the cream cheese mixture.
  9. Spinkle with cinnamon sugar. This creates a wonderful crunchy top!
  10. Bake 350 for 50 minutes to 1 hour, depending on your oven. Test for doneness.
  11. Cool before slicing for a pretty presentation…but I don’t blame you if you cant wait that long:)

I am so glad you guys are back. This bread is AMAZING!! I just had my 14 year old son and his friends finish off both loaves I made. They kept saying it was the best banana bread they had ever had.

Tribute to my sweet Mom

I developed my love of cooking at an early age “helping” my Mom bake cookies, make dinner, and knead bread. She had quite the well of patience! She is the one that taught me about measurements, leavening agents, egg-washes, the basic white sauce, and numerous other mysteries of the kitchen!  I cherish the memories I have of learning to cook at her side. Thank you Mom! You instilled in me a respect for work as well as a joy in creating delicious things. I love you! xoxo
