If you’ve ever ordered a Monte Cristo sandwich at a restaurant, you know how magical that first bite is—warm, melty, sweet and savory all at once. This Monte Cristo Croissant Sandwich is my simplified, at-home version that feels a little fancy but is actually incredibly easy to make. It’s perfect for a special lunch, brunch, or even a fun “breakfast for dinner” night.

Instead of deep frying like the traditional version, we’re using buttery croissants filled with whipped cream cheese, Swiss cheese, and Black Forest ham, then finishing it off with raspberry jam and a dusting of powdered sugar. The result? A bakery-worthy sandwich that hits every craving: salty, creamy, sweet, and buttery.

And the best part? You can have these on the table in about 15 minutes.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Sweet & savory perfection – The combination of ham, Swiss, and raspberry jam is unbeatable.
  • Super easy – No battering or frying required.
  • Feels fancy, but simple – Perfect for brunch guests or a special family lunch.
  • Customizable – Use turkey instead of ham or try different jams.

This Monte Cristo Croissant Sandwich is one of those recipes that feels like a treat but is easy enough for a regular weekday. Warm, melty, a little sweet, a little salty—and absolutely irresistible. If you’re looking for something fun and different to shake up lunch or brunch, this one’s a winner.

Description

This Monte Cristo Croissant Sandwich is my simplified, at-home version that feels a little fancy but is actually incredibly easy to make.

Ingredients

  • 4 butter croissants

  • 4 ounces whipped cream cheese

  • 8 slices Swiss cheese

  • 3/4 pound Black Forest ham

  • 1/4 cup raspberry jam

  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Prep the croissants
Slice each croissant in half horizontally, like you would for a sandwich.

  2. Spread the cream cheese
Spread a generous layer of whipped cream cheese on the bottom half of each croissant.

  3. Layer the fillings
    Add:

    • 1 slice Swiss cheese

    • A few slices of ham

    • Another slice of Swiss cheese

  4. Add the jam
Spread a little raspberry jam on the inside of the top half of the croissant, then place it on top to close the sandwich.

  5. Toast until melty
Place the sandwiches on a baking sheet and bake at 375°F for about 10–12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and everything is warm and gooey.
(You can also do this in an air fryer or skillet if you prefer.)

  6. Finish with powdered sugar
Right before serving, dust the tops with powdered sugar for that classic Monte Cristo touch.

I love a good Monte Cristo Sandwich but feel guilt about it being fried. This is a great alternative that has all the flavors and a bit less guilt.

Tribute to my sweet Mom

I developed my love of cooking at an early age “helping” my Mom bake cookies, make dinner, and knead bread. She had quite the well of patience! She is the one that taught me about measurements, leavening agents, egg-washes, the basic white sauce, and numerous other mysteries of the kitchen!  I cherish the memories I have of learning to cook at her side. Thank you Mom! You instilled in me a respect for work as well as a joy in creating delicious things. I love you! xoxo
