November 17, 2023 by Mel and Boys Kitchen + Leave a Comment

We have a local grocery store here in Chattanooga called Publix and it is well known for making amazing sub sandwiches. One of the subs they offer this time of year is Turkey Cranberry Holiday Sub and is is soooo good! I have already ordered

Mini Pecan Muffins

November 9, 2023 by Mel and Boys Kitchen + 7 Comments

I have been making these Mini Pecan Muffins for about 20 years now! They are rich, dense and sweet so the mini size is just perfect. I actually consider them more of a dessert than a muffin, but we have always referred to them as a muffin. They taste like a soft pecan shortbread or if you under cook them just a little, you will get a goey center that tastes just like southern pecan pie.

Apple Fritter Bread

October 30, 2023 by Mel and Boys Kitchen + 5 Comments

As the leaves start to turn and the air becomes crisp here in the South, I start thinking about all those apple orchard field trips I used to go on when my boys were in elementary school. We always came home with a big bag of apples, a jug of fresh cider and some apple fritters. Yum! Now my boys are in high school and there are no apple orchard feild trips to accompany them on, but I still crave

Yorkshire Pudding

October 27, 2023 by Mel and Boys Kitchen + 22 Comments

Have you ever had Yorkshire Pudding? It originated in England and is traditionally served with roast and gravy. It is so delicious! I grew up on Yorkshire Pudding. My Mom made it as part of our pot roast dinners when I was young. Her mother (our grandma) made it when she was growing up, and when my Mom worked at the Prince of Wales Hotel in Waterton National Park they made it often in the

Tribute to my sweet Mom

I developed my love of cooking at an early age “helping” my Mom bake cookies, make dinner, and knead bread. She had quite the well of patience! She is the one that taught me about measurements, leavening agents, egg-washes, the basic white sauce, and numerous other mysteries of the kitchen!  I cherish the memories I have of learning to cook at her side. Thank you Mom! You instilled in me a respect for work as well as a joy in creating delicious things. I love you! xoxo
