December 13, 2016 by Mel and Boys Kitchen + Leave a Comment

Mmmm, I am excited to share this recipe with you for The BEST Southern Biscuits and Gravy around!  Before I moved to the South, I had never even tried Biscuits and Gravy before.  It was not a dish we have ever had 'out west', at least not in my family.  Here in the South, you can get biscuits and gravy anywhere.  It is a very common menu item and it seems like everyone

My Big Fat Greek Tacos

My Big Fat Greek Tacos

I made these fun greek tacos for my boys the night we introduced them to the movie 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding' !  The tacos and the movie were a BIG hit!  They found the movie hilarious as we knew they would!  Even though my boys normally prefer the classic ground beef (boring) taco,  they were actually super excited to try these!  I love the power of a great name! It is one of my best dinner time

Sugar Cookie Bars

sugar bar cookies

Did you know that yesterday was National Cookie Day?  The perfect excuse to make cookies!  We were in the mood for sugar cookies but not for spending all the time chilling, rolling, cutting and decorating each one.  There are times when traditional sugar cookie making is a fun activity but to be honest, it is a big undertaking for a Mom.  At least with my boys, the kitchen is normally destroyed

Fuji Apple Chicken Salad (Panera Bread )

One of my favorite places to go for lunch with friends is Panera Bread.  Have you been there?  It is chain out here in the South.  I am not sure if there are Panera Breads all over the county now,  but when I lived in Arizona and Utah, they were not there then.  Anyway, Panera Bread has a great menu of homemade soups, salads, sandwiches and lots of fresh baked goods.

Tribute to my sweet Mom

I developed my love of cooking at an early age “helping” my Mom bake cookies, make dinner, and knead bread. She had quite the well of patience! She is the one that taught me about measurements, leavening agents, egg-washes, the basic white sauce, and numerous other mysteries of the kitchen!  I cherish the memories I have of learning to cook at her side. Thank you Mom! You instilled in me a respect for work as well as a joy in creating delicious things. I love you! xoxo
