One of the best parts of summer is all the fresh fruit that is available!  Is there anything better than chilled fresh fruit on a warm summer day?  I don't think so!  I have a habit of including a fresh fruit with each meal, but last week I decided to have some fun and  presented my family with sweet rainbow kebobs and with this fun Sugar and Spice Fruit dip to go with them!  All of a sudden our

The Classic Frittata

June 5, 2012 by Mel and Boys Kitchen + 9 Comments

I love this The Classic Frittata!  I love that they are EASY, healthy and the flavor possibilities are endless!  Frittatas are usually served at a brunch, but I have to admit they are one of my favorite dinners, especially in the summer when I crave light meals that require little time in the kitchen.  This basic recipe can be changed to fit your mood and what you have in your fridge at the

Kalua Pork

April 20, 2012 by Mel and Boys Kitchen + 42 Comments

East Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

Kalua pork is a serious favorite around our house.  If you haven't tried it yet, you've just got to... and soon!  My mom made this from time to time growing up, and I loved it... but I had kind of forgotten about it until my own family moved in next to a Hawaiian family five  years ago.  The Wongs have thrown a Luau from time to time, and my husband and I fell in love with their Kalua pork.  After

Classic Chocolate Cake {not from a box}

April 9, 2012 by Mel and Boys Kitchen + 21 Comments

I think you are going to LOVE this Classic Chocolate Cake {not from a box}!  I have to admit that in the past I have always made chocolate cake from a box mix. I had convinced myself that it was too much trouble to make a cake from scratch and since I have never been a huge fan of cake anyway, I guess I felt like the mix was fine. Well, I can now tell you that my thinking has

Tribute to my sweet Mom

I developed my love of cooking at an early age “helping” my Mom bake cookies, make dinner, and knead bread. She had quite the well of patience! She is the one that taught me about measurements, leavening agents, egg-washes, the basic white sauce, and numerous other mysteries of the kitchen!  I cherish the memories I have of learning to cook at her side. Thank you Mom! You instilled in me a respect for work as well as a joy in creating delicious things. I love you! xoxo
