Crepes

January 26, 2010 by Mel and Boys Kitchen + 28 Comments

My family LOVES these crepes, or "roll up pancakes" as we like to call them. This recipe makes a thin crepe that is very simple to make. I usually butter them straight out of the pan and sprinkle on some powdered sugar and then roll them up. My boys would eat them dipped in syrup when they were little. YUM!! I also have a creme filled crepe recipe here.

Cherry Lemon Scones

January 18, 2010 by Mel and Boys Kitchen + 369 Comments

When a bag of dried cherries caught my eye at the store, I remembered these fantastic Cherry Lemon Scones my little sister Erin and I had made together the last time she visited Utah (when we were all still there). We invited our other sisters over and had a delicious treat together. The scones were wonderful and of course the time spent with my sweet sisters was too! Remembering our fun afternoon

Peanut Butter Cup Trifle Dessert

January 15, 2010 by Mel and Boys Kitchen + 64 Comments

I brought this yummy Peanut Butter Cup trifle to a baby shower last night. Who can resist a scrumptious trifle with layers of rich chocolaty brownies, smooth pudding, and crumbled peanut butter cups?? Not I for one! And neither can anyone else, since whenever I make this it is gone in a flash. :) This delicious trifle is pretty rich, so I always save it for a party with a crowd. Mmmmmm! You can't

Parmesan Alfredo Sauce

January 12, 2010 by Mel and Boys Kitchen + 15 Comments

Fettuccini Alfredo was always one of my very favorite dishes growing up. I can remember eating so much my stomach hurt on many more occasions than I'd like to admit:) Then I learned how many calories were in it! No wonder my stomach was hurting so bad. I still love alfredo sauce but with this recipe I can enjoy a long time favorite with slightly less guilt! Below is the extremely easy original

Mom’s Peanut Blossoms

January 11, 2010 by Mel and Boys Kitchen + 16 Comments

We had leftover Hershey Kisses from our Christmas treats so of course the boys and I HAD to make my Mom's peanut blossoms.  These delicious cookies are one of our family favorites. This is my Mom's recipe and it always turns out perfectly! These cookies are such a hit in our house! I have one boy unwrapping kisses, one mixing the batter, one rolling the dough into balls and everyone jumps in to

Oreo Truffles

December 19, 2009 by Mel and Boys Kitchen + 26 Comments

These sweet little treats are fun to make and everybody loves them! I bet a lot of you already have this recipe - they were a hit last year in the recipe blogging world and got passed around quite a bit! I got the recipe off of the Picky Palate who got it from someone else... they must be good right?! The only thing I changed was using a little more cream cheese - with only one package of cream

Triple Chocolate covered nuts

December 9, 2009 by Mel and Boys Kitchen + 24 Comments

Now this is a classic in our family. What's Christmas without an endless supply of chocolate covered nuts?! My Dad's favorite was always the chocolate covered peanuts while the women tended to favor the variety of fancy mixed nuts. We must appreciate the subtleties of flavor much more than the men of the family! It's pretty much the same story in my house today... my hubby loves the peanuts and

Mom’s Soothing Drink for a Sore Throat

December 8, 2009 by Mel and Boys Kitchen + 16 Comments

This afternoon my oldest son came home from school looking miserable. When I asked about his day, he told me that his throat hurt and he felt awful. I told him to change out of his damp clothes (it is gray and rainy here in Tennessee) and get into warm and comfy clothes while I prepared something that would help him feel better. I quickly whipped up my Mom's Soothing Drink for a Sore Throat. My

Tribute to my sweet Mom

I developed my love of cooking at an early age “helping” my Mom bake cookies, make dinner, and knead bread. She had quite the well of patience! She is the one that taught me about measurements, leavening agents, egg-washes, the basic white sauce, and numerous other mysteries of the kitchen!  I cherish the memories I have of learning to cook at her side. Thank you Mom! You instilled in me a respect for work as well as a joy in creating delicious things. I love you! xoxo
