Perfect Chocolate Chip Bar cookies for a Crowd

August 2, 2013 by Mel and Boys Kitchen + 12 Comments

I had to add "perfect" in the title so you wouldn't just skip over this recipe!  This is really a cookie breakthrough... let me tell you why.  First of all we have the genius aspect of the bar form of cookies.  Who loves cookies? Everyone.  Who loves baking batch after batch after batch of cookies? Less then everyone.  Who likes heating up their house with an oven on for hours during a hot summer?

Homemade J Dawgs Sauce

July 31, 2013 by Mel and Boys Kitchen + 30 Comments

These cute patriotic 4th of July dipped cones were such an easy way to make our Independence Day more festive last year!  I'm getting excited to do it again.  They are super easy, can be made way ahead of time, and taste so yummy!  I sprinkled pop rocks on the kid's cones, and they thought that was awesome. Peanut Butter and Chocolate Granola Bars (like Quaker Chewy granola bars)

June 3, 2013 by Mel and Boys Kitchen + 28 Comments

My boys love these Peanut Butter and Chocolate Granola Bars (like Quaker Chewy granola bars)! A staple at our house has been the Quaker Chewy granola bar brand that you can buy in bulk at Costco.  Granola bars are the treat/snack of choice for my boys to grab on the go for the park or pool.  With the recent Celiac diagnosis at our house, two of my boys can no longer eat them because unfortunately

Tribute to my sweet Mom

I developed my love of cooking at an early age “helping” my Mom bake cookies, make dinner, and knead bread. She had quite the well of patience! She is the one that taught me about measurements, leavening agents, egg-washes, the basic white sauce, and numerous other mysteries of the kitchen!  I cherish the memories I have of learning to cook at her side. Thank you Mom! You instilled in me a respect for work as well as a joy in creating delicious things. I love you! xoxo
