Mom’s Caramel Popcorn

September 14, 2008 by Mel and Boys Kitchen + 3 Comments

'Mom's Caramel Popcorn' is obviously a recipe that I got from my Mother, but it is actually her Mother's recipe. In fact, when my Mom gave me this recipe she was reading off the original recipe that she copied from my Grandma and in the ingredients it read, "butter, the size of an egg" Funny, right?! I love making my favorite family recipes. This has so many happy memories attached to it! I

These buttermilk rolls really are amazing! They are soft, smooth, puffy and if you spread one with butter it will just melt in your mouth ! The best part about the recipe is that the dough will keep in your fridge for about 7 days. So, you can easily have warm homemade rolls anytime your heart desires! This recipe makes the best rolls! ENJOY...ps I have also been known to use this dough for

Fresh Peach Pie

September 5, 2008 by Mel and Boys Kitchen + 9 Comments

I love this fresh peach pie. It's one of my favorite summer treats. There's summer in every sweet and tasty bite! You only bake the pie crust and then pour the sliced peaches and the sauce into the crust after it's cooled. So the peaches are full of flavor and still firm since they are served perfectly fresh. Reserve only the best peaches for this pie - avoid over ripe ones that are mushy as well

Pesto Chicken Pizza with Pinenuts and Feta

August 13, 2008 by Mel and Boys Kitchen + 18 Comments

My husband and I used to go to the Rusted Sun Pizzeria in downtown Salt Lake City. I LOVED their chicken & pine nut pizza. So I made up this recipe one day in a burst of inspiration... I think it comes pretty close! This is our ALL-TIME favorite pizza ever. It's so yummy. It might seem complicated because of all the recipes that go into preparing this pizza. But it's really not difficult

July 21, 2008 by Mel and Boys Kitchen + 9 Comments

Well--it is that time of year again when zucchinis are plentiful! The one zucchini plant in my garden died this year, but I figured between my sisters, Mom and nieghbors I am sure to get plenty. My neighbor's cute little daughter brought me over 2 yesterday! I was so excited to get the first ones of the season that I whipped up this fabulous zucchini bread recipe. Tribute to my sweet Mom

I developed my love of cooking at an early age “helping” my Mom bake cookies, make dinner, and knead bread. She had quite the well of patience! She is the one that taught me about measurements, leavening agents, egg-washes, the basic white sauce, and numerous other mysteries of the kitchen!  I cherish the memories I have of learning to cook at her side. Thank you Mom! You instilled in me a respect for work as well as a joy in creating delicious things. I love you! xoxo
